SOUND UP ???? Serenading Pop with ‘To Sir, With Love’… For the 101st Show at The Garden in April. ???? I was reluctant to post this right after my performance, given the fact that I was tearing up periodically throughout the entire song, as was My Father. And so, even though I was singing in front of a massive stadium… this still feels like a deeply personal and vulnerable moment to be sharing with the world. My live delivery wasn’t nearly as technically-pristine as I had practiced it, but the emotion poured out, and I was suddenly and inextricably overwrought and overcome by the magnitude of this special moment. (Hopefully, that raw emotion translated… even if some of the stylistic execution came up short.) I had my heart set on singing Lulu’s timeless song for My Dad, because he first introduced me to it when I was just a little girl. ???? I must’ve watched ‘To Sir, With Love’ with him at least 5 times over, back in the day. I was, and still am, utterly smitten with the nostalgic style n’ sound of the Swinging 60’s. ???? From the bittersweetly thankful and reflective lyrics to the sweetly-sweeping melody, doesn’t it sound like the perfect song to sing or play for someone whom you look up to? ???? As I realized he was nearing the end of his residency at The Garden, it just didn’t seem like enough to merely sing a few of his songs with him for my final guest-appearance. I wanted to expressly take a moment and thank him for everything he’s done for me, not to mention… for even giving me the opportunity to sing with him at Madison Square Garden in the first place. I know it’s a tremendous privilege… and trust me, I’ve never once taken that for granted. ???? All my love n’ thanks to My Father, everyone in the band, and my hometown of N.Y.C. for making me feel so welcome on this legendary stage. ???? I wanna give a special thanks to the Musical-Director of Dad’s Band, Dave Rosenthal, for helping me put together such a beautiful live arrangement of this song. ‘Every year’s a souvenir, that slowly fades away’… but I’ll be cherishing these glimmering memories for a lifetime. ????
